Shrinky Dinks will take you back to your childhood. Shrinky Dinks were created in the 70’s as a boy scouts project. By the mid 80’s everyone was playing with Shrinky Dinks.
I recently came across Alex Brand Shrinky Dinks on Amazon. I ordered a box because I remember how much fun they were when I was little.
I ordered the Pony Jewelry set. Using Amazon Prime, I was able to get free shipping and it arrived in just two days.
I bought the set for a few reasons. The purpose of my blog is to rediscover the child inside of me. I also bought the Shrinky Dinks because I am always trying to introduce my granddaughter to new things.
My granddaughter was not with me, so I grabbed my husband. Amazingly he never did Shrinky Dinks as a kid. Having grown up in the 70’s and 80’s I didn’t know that was possible.
It is important to use the pencils in the set. Crayons, markers, and other greasy or waxy items will not work.
- color rough side of plastic
- preheat over to 325 degrees, do not use a microwave
- place on a foil lined cookie sheet colored side up
- cook for about 3 minutes
- they will begin to curl
- watch them shrink
- once they are flat again, leave them in the oven for 30 more seconds
When you remove them from the oven, you will need to make sure they are flat as they cool. It only takes about 15 seconds.
We decided to use the earring hooks
10 Minutes from start to finish.
Honestly, I am impressed. I am sure my coloring skills have greatly improved, however I don’t remember them ever looking this good back in the 80’s.
In more recent history, Shrinky Dink plastic has also been used in stem-cell research.
