Give Kids the World

The odds are you have heard of the Make a Wish foundation, but have you heard of Give Kids the World? Give Kids the World began in 1986. It all started because of Amy’s wish. A girl who passed away from leukemia before her wish could be granted.

The gates to GKTW opened in 1989. The joint efforts, involving members of the hospitality and tourism industry, make it possible to bring these special children to Orlando in 24 hours or less if necessary.

They have welcomed over143,000 children from all 50 states and 75 countries since then.

Papa John has made personal deliveries in the past.

From the stories I have heard, 3 of the favorite things are

  1. Ice Cream for Breakfast
  2. Mayor Clayton’s Tuck ins

3. Writing their name on a star to be put up on the wall

The children and their families get to enjoy the 79 acre theme park. They also receive tickets to multiple Florida theme parks and resorts.

Even Prince Harry loves them!

Things got a little Extreme when Ty Pennington and the gang showed up for about two weeks.

While it is heartbreaking that GKTW needs to exist, it is reassuring to know that they are there.

I have seen photos and heard stories from many families who have visited. They all have one thing in common, JOY!

  1. ‘Give Kids The World’ should be our motto–as a nation and as a people. Thank you for letting me know about this.
