Concert in the Park
What cherished memory can you think of that screams Summer louder then a concert in the park?
There was a time in my life that I always knew what was going on and where. Today, I was flipping through my day planner and noticed MoBand was playing at Mancini Bowl in Graceda Park in Modesto, CA. I told Bart we should go, and so we did.
Before going, Bart and I grilled some pork steaks, potatoes, and corn for dinner. We ate before we heading to the concert.
We packed a blanket and drinks. Bart put chairs in the car, but they stayed in the car. It can be quite a hike to get to the park from where you end up parking. We actually found seating in the bleachers. I was still glad we had the blanket for a cushion.
A lot of people bring food and drinks to the concert and have picnics. There are also a lot of food trucks that show up. I noticed a snow cone truck tonight.
The real joy of the concert in the park is just getting out of the house, visiting with neighbors, and enjoying the music.
We met Lincoln and his family tonight. He was exactly what becoming 7 is about. You can see him dancing above to Hawii 5-0 and just having fun. He was so into the music. It was a real treat to watch him experience the show.
I would like to think a time will come that I will feel so free again.
MoBand started as the Modesto Boys Band in 1919. It is one of the nations oldest continuously performing bands.
While it is a long standing community tradition, everyone is invited to be in the band. The only requirements are to have completed 8th grade and to attend the two practices leading up to the show. You can be in one show or many shows. It is all up to you.
At the end of the night, I caught some guys probably becoming 7 again, laughing, dancing and being silly as well.
Next week will be the annual 4th of July concert with fireworks.
