It’s National Lollipop Day! What kid doesn’t love a good old fashion sucker?

As a child, I always wanted a tootsie pop because of the Indian shooting the star.

The Legend was that if you had an Indian shooting the star, you could mail it in for a free lollipop. Did you know it is an Urban Legand? There is absolutely no truth to it at all. They will tell you that kids have been mailing them wrappers since the 1930’s. Supposedly 1 in 3 has the Indian shooting the star. That would be a lot of free lollipops.

From time to time as a kid, I got lucky and would find a shopkeeper who would play along and give us a free lollipop. They got no reimbursement but they did make kids happy.

Dum Dums were always in my trick or treat bag as a child. They were okay but not my favorite.

Over the years, a lot of companies have gone into the sucker business. You will find fun shapes, holiday themed, candy or gum filled, and even ones you dip into candy powder.

I also loved Whirly Pops and Unicorn pops. They came in sizes from itty bitty to bigger then your head. I always wanted the biggest one my parents would let me get.

  1. I always loved Tootsie Roll pops and still do, ha! Really I loved all candy as a kid and would eat any kind that you gave me. Now I have over 14 crowns probably as a result of my super sweet tooth.
