Pete’s Dragon

Pete’s Dragon

Lately I’ve seen movies like War Dogs and Florence Foster Jenkins that don’t just feel right for the becoming 7 crowd. Friday, I went to Regal Cinema in Modesto and saw Pete’s Dragon.

Some exciting news is they are remodeling the Regal theater to include the luxury recliners. I am so excited. That is one of the big draws that Galaxy has.

I remember the name Pete’s Dragon from Childhood. I knew I saw it as a child as a cartoon. I didn’t have especially fond memories of the movie or story, but I couldn’t tell you anything about it.

I think for a child, the movie is probably pretty scary. Losing you family is a hard concept. Losing your family, losing your second family, watching people hunt your family, freeing the one you love, and then having to leave that person and move on to the new family all by the age of 10 is just beyond scary.

I realize for some children, it is their reality. Sometime family members change.

I sat there and thought about when we took my granddaughter to see the Good Dinosaur. She was sad. She cried. She didn’t like the concept that Spot had to leave Arlo and join the humans. I don’t know if she would have handle Pete’s Dragon any better.

Over time our minds tend to repress or forget traumatic experiences. I am thinking that is what I probably did with Pete’s Dragon as a child.

As an adult, I did enjoy the movie. Maybe it was because Robert Redford was on the screen.

(Double R you’re a super star!)
