Our adventures to see Trolls was a little bumpy, but well worth the wait.
We really wanted to see Trolls in a theater that has Auro 11.1 or Auro 13.1 sound system by Barco. Auro sound systems are considered 3 D. A step beyond surround sound and Dolby Atmos. We were thinking a movie with a lot of music would be great in that format. Unfortunately, there are no theaters in our area. We knew were going to have to drive in order to experience it. By the time we found out where it was available in that format, our schedules would not permit us to travel to see it before a new movie would be in the assigned theater.
In the end, we went to our local Regal theater in Modesto. It is in the middle of renovations. Half the theaters are finished at this time and half are closed for remodel. We opted to see Trolls in 3D and I am so very glad we did.
Regal’s new theaters feature reclining chairs much like the Galaxy Luxury Theater in Riverbank. There was ample space between the rows. The chairs were very comfortable. We did immediately notice that the chairs lack trays for your snacks. We also noticed the seats were a little smaller then at the Galaxy.
I want to point out that Regal is doing a wonderful renovation. It includes new carpet, floor tiles, and wall paper. It creates the feeling that you are the first person to ever visit this theater.
The theater was first opened in 1978 by Festival Theaters. In the past 40 years, the theater has been sold to different companies, expanded, and had various renovations.
I don’t want to give away too much of the movie. It does feature two story lines in my opinion. The first features the kidnapping of Trolls by Bergen followed by their rescue by Princess Poppy. The second story line is much like Cinderella. A poor abused maid who falls in love with the prince/king but he falls in love with her as a beautiful woman. He only later finds out her true identity, but it no longer matters. He is in love.
It was a very nostalgic movie for us. A lot of the colors and music took us back to the 70’s and 80’s. Trolls featured the incredible artwork of Dreamworks studios. Justin Timberlake did a great job as the music directer.
We really enjoyed ourselves. The theater appeared to have surround speakers set up. We mostly noticed sound from the front center of the theater. We are not sure if it the sound needs to be tweaked a little or not. It just seemed like the sound could have been so much more. AGAIN, the music was great as was the movie.
A final thought on the renovations at Regal in Modesto. We love the new concessions stand menu. They also added a Sweet Amanda’s Machine. The machine has 16 candy choices and 6 toy choices. I only did the candy. You can watch the video above to see how much fun it is.
